KUBB are Harry, Dom, Adj and Tilley - and this is their story.

Born in Liverpool, Harry left for Tobago aged four where he began playing the recorder, clarinet and classical guitar in a youth music orchestra. He returned to England 13 years later, settling in Cornwall where he was inspired to become a performer after watching a local theatre company. Harry spent some time gigging with a band after learning to play the bass.

But it was only when he moved to London that he turned to singing full-time after a chance meeting with Rollo, the central force behind Faithless and Dido's brother. Rollo was celebrating a birthday meal at the café where Harry was working as a waiter, when Harry was asked to sing 'Happy Birthday,' Rollo promptly invited him to his studio.

Harry started co-writing the songs for KUBB's debut album 'Mother' and began laying the foundations for the band. And through contacts and friends-of-friends the four-piece was finalised with Dom, Adj and Tilley.

After a brief and ill-fated tinkering with the piano, Dom picked up the drumsticks at the age of 14. "I always knew the drums were the coolest instrument - I just had to play the drums," says Dom. After trying out several bands, Dom found fame with Reef, who he spent eight "brilliant" years with.

And then he found KUBB. "The dynamics between the people in KUBB are really good," Dom revealed. "They are all really good musicians, and I'm excited about the potential for the music we are going to write together in the future."

KUBB guitarist Adj knew just what to do with a guitar before he even picked one up. "Forever, the only thing I wanted to do was to be a guitarist in a band," admits Adj. And in KUBB, Adj found a group of musicians who perfectly complimented his own style of playing the guitar.

A technique he describes as uniquely "simple" and that "no-one else can deliver in the same way. "I just like to play lots of different things simply because when your singer is as good as Harry, what's the fucking point in over-complicating things?"

Tilley replied to a want-ad in the NME for a keyboard player and found himself auditioning for KUBB. "It took them two weeks to decide that I should be in the band,” says Tilley. Once in - Tilley added his own wealth of musical knowledge to the KUBB collective. Tilley went to a music conservatoire in London where he studied classical piano for four years. He has also written two musicals, played in covers bands and served his time as a cocktail pianist to pay the bills. "I've worked with so many singers but when I first heard Harry I knew this was it,” he says.

Last year, KUBB knuckled down in the studio with Youth, the renowned producer who most recently rocket-powered Embrace's how'd-that-happen? comeback. They clicked instantly, banging through nine tracks in seven days. KUBB's debut album is called 'Mother.' The title reflects Harry's thoughts on the 'divine feminine' in religion and the earth. He's worried that he sounds pretentious, but so be it.

Some of the album documents the ruinous fall-out from a relationship Harry had for three/four years. 'Somebody Else' and 'Bitch' are bitter but glorious. 'Sun' is a lighters-in-the-air power-ballad (in a good way). Even more uplifting is the surging, Tomorrow Never Knows-reboot that is 'I Don't Mind' and the piano-led 'Wicked Soul'.' "That's quite a sexual song, says Harry. 'It's just about casting off your inhibitions and fucking the brains out of your missus." 'Grow', one of the album's boldest, biggest songs, is 'a relationship recovery song.

"I feel very passionate about KUBB," says Harry. "I feel like I belong and I get a lot of energy from it. Some bands hate each other but it's great because we really like each other and there is a connection there."
