the online live music gig guide for birmingham & the midlands

Bizali

Inventors, expanders-upon and chief exponents of Flunk music, Bizali boil the copperpot of folk, mix with the silky tealeaves of soul, blend with smooth funk syrup and serve in a little teapot of swing. Bizali formed in 2005 after meeting at university in Bristol. A common appreciation of artists such as The Bad Plus, Radiohead, Joni Mitchell, Jeff Buckley and Regina Spektor contributes to the bands unique sound. Earlier tunes demonstrate songwriter and guitarist Aaron Zahls folk influences from when Bizali comprised of just Zahl and vocalist Blythe Pepino. A constant stream of new material, evolving through and seasoned by electric live performances, and recent studio projects (Artisan Studios) showcases the bands ability to mould infectious groove and riff based tunes into energetic songs brimming with funk and wit. As a result of winning the UK national final of the Global Battle of the Bands 2006 competition, Bizali have secured a full UK tour for June/July 2007 scheduled to coincide with a UK single release with Goldust Productions and mastering courtesy of Alchemy (Soho).
