Singer/songwriter/auteur David Garside has recently released his third album 'MODERN MEDIAEVAL' on boutique London label Frizz Records.
There are few songwriters working today that have absorbed their 'classic pop/rock' influences so fully and arrived at such a mature style as David. He draws on them as a back-drop for creative exploration into uncharted territory. His innovation is to create a world through his melodies and chord patterns, his gently unfolding songs structures, and his consistently engaging lyrical turn of phrase; there is a subtle mood which infuses everything which could only be David Garside.
It can be difficult in 2011 to make yourself heard above the noise, and it's never been David's style to fight his way to the front with brash sonics or fashion statements. His palette is 'traditional' - clean guitars, keyboards, bass, strings, horns, jazz-inflected drums...all tastefully and beautifully arranged, without there ever being anything ostentatious. His soulful yearning and very English tenor provides a consistency to his stylistic roaming across everything from 'Pet Sounds' orchestrations to sparser chamber pieces and Genesis-style progressive road-trips.
