After several years wowing audiences across the UK and EU music scene, playing rapturous festival sets at Boomtown, Nozstock, Y Not, and Tramlines, and then recording their second album with highly respected producer Gavin Monaghan The Destroyers, The Editors, Robert Plant, the Sexy Weirdos are now gaining international acclaim for their third album “European English ” available on Bandcamp, Spotify and I Tunes.
JOHNNY KOWALSKI AND THE SEXY WEIRDOS HAVE TRAVELLED THOUSANDS OF MILES ON BOTH SIDES OF THE ROAD IN THE PAST 4 YEARS OR SO. WITH ELECTRIC GRITAR, WILD FOREST FIDDLE, 5 TON DRUMS, SOLID BRASSIFICATIONS AND DOBRÝ DUB BASS THEY HAVE HONED A LIVE SHOW FULL OF UPBEAT NUMBERS WITH INFLUENCES FED DIRECTLY FROM EASTERN EUROPE, JAMAICA AND THE LAST 50 YEARS OF ROCK’N’ROLL.
The whole band perform with swagger and without shame. Their purpose is to coax, seduce and tantalise audiences into the joy of dancing with abandon.
In early 2014 The Sexy Weirdos worked with respected producer Gavin Monaghan (Robert Plant, Lee Scratch Perry, The Destroyers) to record their 10 track second album Kill the Beast, the follow up to their self recorded primary release Victory for the Monsters. In addition to airplay on BBC Radio 6 Music, and making a string of music videos supported by their wonderful hometown crowd, the band has been commited to playing gigs outside of the Birmingham area. This has gained them a widespread and loyal fanbase, with appearances at festivals and packed out venues across europe during multiple tours.
Playing all kinds of venues in England, France, Belgium, Netherlands, Italy, Slovenia, Germany and Czech Republic, the road has been kind to the band. Enjoying special and profound moments such as 200 Italian activists singing the antifascist anthem ‘Bella Ciao’ back at them after they threw it into a medley at the end of an outdoor gig up on Verona’s old city walls, or playing a set to local Roma families in the main square of an abandoned fortress town in the Czech Republic, in a way completing the circle of the music’s journey via an English interpretation.
With a summer of gigs, an album to promote and new songs being road tested and refined, Johnny Kowalski and the Sexy Weirdos are a band in fine fettle and ready to rise to the challenge of taking their fun and carefree spirit where the world will have them.
