Katie Fitzgerald's Stourbridge

Katie Fitzgeralds

Katie Fitzgeralds has built a reputation for the best in live music 6 nights a week, a wonderful selection of drinks and the friendliest welcome in town.

Originally a private house the building is over 200 years old and has been a pub since the 1830 Beer Act . In the 19th century it would have been home to foundry workers and boatmen and would have looked out across to the Stourbridge canal arm where Foster and Rastrick built the Stourbridge Lion - the first steam locomotive to run on rails in the USA.

Originally known as the Golden Lion, it was taken on by Marnie Costello, who renamed it in honour of the Stourbridge Lion, a then largely forgotten historical achievement. Marnie's love of life, people and of course live music soon began to earn the Lion its well-deserved reputation as one of the friendliest & finest live music venues in the Black Country.

In 2000 it was taken over by Birmingham singer songwriter Eddy Morton, who renamed it in honour of his partner Trina's grandmother Katie Fitzgerald, who was born in Cloyne, County
Cork. Under Eddy & Trina's stewardship, the venue's reputation for live music excellence has been maintained, performers have included Ronny Drew, Sean Cannon, Miles Hunt, Trevor Burton, Steve Gibbons, various members of UB40, Badly Drawn Boy, John Otway, Robb Johnson, Harvey Andrews , Roy Bailey, Rory McLeod, Show of Hands, Stevie Young of AC DC, Brian Tatler of Diamond Head, Magnum's Bob Catley, Dave Sharp of the Alarm, Nick Harper, Nislopi, Ian Parker, Vix from Fuzzbox , Vin Garbutt, Martyn Simpson, Martyn Carthy, Chris Difford from Squeeze, Martyn Joseph, the Neon Hearts plus countless local bands and solo and duo artists in all genres of music from Jazz to Folk to rock and Punk. The venue has also consistently provided a home for local musicians, featuring regular jam nights, open mic nights, and of course their legendary Wednesday night Irish Sessiun
