At Last!!! After 35 years!!! ABBA NEWS!!!!

02 May 2018

The Scandinavian Pop Supergroup has announced that, after a hiatus of 35 YEARS that they will be releasing NEW MATERIAL!!! to be premiered in a NEW!!! two-hour TV show  co-produced by NBC and the BBC, and TOURING!!!(sort-of...)

Spoiler - The TV special will feature not the band themselves performing, but computer-generated avatars - the band have been digitally scanned and “de-aged” to look just like they did in 1979, when they performed what was only their third - and - final tour.

The Band say the plan is that the avatars will then tour the world on their behalf from next year.

The band released an official statement on their Facebook page and website:

A Message From ABBA

Benny Andersson, the other half of the songwriting duo, said during a BBC News interview that the new material was conceived while he and Bjorn Ulvaeus were in the studio working on the avatar project:

"We said, 'Hmm, maybe we should try and write a couple of songs, ask the ladies if they want to come in and sing'.  And they said, 'Yeah, absolutely'...

""I don't feel that we have to prove anything," Benny  told the Beeb - "I don't feel we have to think about, 'Oh, what if it was better before?  Maybe it was, but we can't care about that. We do it because we think it was a good thing to do.  We enjoyed it very much... I hope you'll like them."

He alse revealed that the band are still working on the new material:

"We have the vocals, they're all recorded, we haven't mixed it, we haven't worked them through, really, but I think they're pretty good. "

When asked if the new songs were on a par with the pop GrandMasters output during their heyday in the 70's, Bjorn said:

"I think so. It certainly sounds Abba very much... One of the songs is like we would've written it [for] today. The other, we could've written in 1972...  As soon as Frida [Anni-Frid Lyngstad] and Agnetha [Faltskog] start singing, that's when it sounds Abba."

The band have turned down every offer made to them ever to reform, no matter how extravagantly lucratively incentivised financially - they were reportedly offered a BILLION DOLLARS to play a one-off gig in 2007.

Just 4 years ago, in 2014, Björn Ulvaeus, one half of the songwriting superpower duo{the other being Benny Andersson} said:

"“You will NEVER see us on stage again … we don’t need the money, for one thing.”

Well, I guess he's kept his word, because of course it won't be ABBA on stage or on TV, in a way, but in another way of course, it totally will be.

They'll probably look at bit like this:
